Our Story

Digital Detox Asia exists to address something each one of us consciously or unconsciously accepts—attachment to the digital world.
Digital Detox Asia is for all who identify as being part of the Digital Age and understand the importance of taking periodic breaks to reconnect to ourselves and each other, refresh our minds and bodies with new skills and information, and recharge, so that we are ready to return to the world.
We are committed to changing the status quo, helping people reassess their digital attachments, and provide skills to transform our collective consciousness.
Our team is leading the way in this growing, positive social movement.
Our Team

JOHN BAILEY
Educator & Co-creator of Digital Detox Asia
John was born in New Zealand and raised in the countryside northwest of Melbourne, Australia. Growing up in a family of boys, outdoors activities were usually the norm; these included horse riding, exploring the nearby forests or riding dirt bikes.
Originally wanting to pursue a career in IT like his father, John took a GAP year to Thailand in 2001, forever redirecting his life focus towards more humanistic paths. Upon his return, he changed his degree to Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology/English double major), with aspirations to travel the world as a teacher. Sixteen years later, after working his way to one of Bangkok’s most prestigious international schools (Harrow), John has decided to focus on his other dreams: wellness, music and film.
“I love teaching, I just feel the universe is opening uncharted doors for me right now.” Indeed, in the year since leaving the busy life of an international school teacher, he has toured the world under his solo project pseudonym John Will Sail, set up music events, made films and co-founded Digital Detox Asia.
“The opportunity to pursue my other passions has created a somewhat fresh ground for creativity: the chance to reflect and view life from another angle.”

NATHANIEL TRY
Educator & Co-creator of Digital Detox Asia
Nat was born in Australia and spent the first eighteen years of his life in a small village on Australia’s East Coast. After spending his early years developing a fondness for the natural world we live in, he moved to the beachside city of Newcastle to play music and work as a music journalist.
At twenty-three, he left Australia to explore the world and found what he would call his ‘true calling’: yoga, meditation and the pursuit of a mindful, healthy lifestyle. Nat has travelled through over 35 different countries, and spent time studying these wellness practices in Canada, USA, Australia, Bali, Cambodia, India, and Thailand. He previously ran his own yoga retreat and currently teaches at Bangkok’s number one studio, Yoga Elements, as well as teaching students in some of Bangkok’s top international schools (Harrow, NIST and St. Andrews).
“In my daily life I spend certain periods of the day being technology free. It’s totally necessary for my health and wellbeing. I think the difficulty for many people nowadays is that when they’re alone, they don’t know how to spend their time other than by looking at their phones, computers and televisions constantly. I am passionately sharing yoga, meditation, and writing workshops at Digital Detox Asia in the hope of inspiring guests to carry these beautiful practices home with them, to transform their daily lives.”
